Week 15 PowerPlayer of the Week Released

The State Basketball League has released the Week 15 PowerPlayer of the week awards. Each week thanks to PowerPlay Sports one Women’s and one Men’s SBL player is awarded the SBL PowerPlayer of the week award. The winner receives a $50 voucher for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco.

Week Fifteen’s winner is Australian Opal member Renae Camino from the Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks. Camino dominated in the Redbacks two wins, with 29 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists against the Cougars on Friday night. This effort was backed up against the Slammers on Saturday night with 30 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. Camino also shot at 60% from the floor for the weekend.

New Sydney Uni Flames recruit, Deanna Smith, was closely considered in Week 15 with two strong outings. Against the Lightning Smith had 31 points and 9 rebounds and she backed up on Saturday night with 29 points and 7 rebounds against the Eagles. Smith has also claimed the award in Weeks 3, 8 & 13.

Others in consideration for the Week 15 award were Courtney Bayliss (Lightning), Emma Pass (Cougars), Alicia Rinaldi (Senators), Shelley Boston (Magic), Kaye Tucker (Flames), Natalie Young (Lightning), Carly Wilson (Eagles), Gemma Thomas (Magic), Samantha Norwood (Eastern Suns), Elizabeth Lennox (Slammers), Brooke Hiddlestone (Redbacks) & Ashley Gilmore (Tigers).

In the Men’s competition Hawks star Tom Garlepp claimed his second PowerPlayer of the Week Award for leading his side to a 1-1 weekend. In a 9 point loss to the league leading Lightning Garlepp finished with 30 points and 16 rebounds. That effort was backed up with 22 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists in his side’s 3 point win over the Australian Central Eagles. Garlepp also shot a solid 48% for the weekend.

Edward Morris Jr was close to receiving his second award for his weekend performances. In the Senators win against the Magic Morris Jr recorded 33 points and 13 rebounds. He backed this effort up in Saturday night’s loss to the Tigers with 31 points and 10 rebounds. Morris Jr also shot at 62% for the weekend, including a strong dunk over the 7”2 Chris Christofferssen.

Others that were considered for the award were Jarrad Prue (Lightning), Chris Lynch (Redbacks), Bryce Burch (Cougars), Tom Remmsewaal (Magic), Michael Haney (Giants), Jeff Dowdell (Wolves), Michael Le Blanc (Buccs), Joey Harrel Jr (Flames), Luke Payne (Lightning), Ben Thompson (Eagles), Andrew Bowman (Magic), Joe Nixon (Eastern Suns), John Smith (Slammers), Ryan Neill (Redbacks), Robert Epps (Tigers), Tom Jervis (Eagles), Luke Meyer (Buccs), Adrian Majstravich (Eastern Suns) & Alonzo Hird (Giants).
