Do or Die' Game For Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks

The Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks play the East Perth Eagles this Saturday 4th July at Belmont Oasis in what are vital State Basketball League games for both the men’s and women’s teams.

The Redbacks’ women must continue their winning streak to ensure a high placing in the top-four.  This will not be an easy task, given the recent strong form of the Eagles since the arrival of Women’s National Basketball League player and Opals Squad member Carly Wilson.

This game will see the inevitable crowd-pleasing match-up of Wilson against fellow Opals Squad-member and Redbacks’ player Renae Camino.  Camino has had an immediate impact since entering the league having won last month’s SBL women’s Power-Player of the month award.  It is significant that the Redbacks have not lost any game in which Camino has played.

Camino’s arrival has also had a positive affect in freeing up strong Redbacks’ forward and former NBL player Brooke Hiddlestone, as teams can no longer afford to double-team her in an attempt to nullify her impact.  The combinations of Camino, Hiddlestone and former WNBL player Narelle Henry against the Eagles that include high-scorer’s Kelsey Maffin, Elizabeth Zezan, Bindi Foote & Carly Wilson makes for a tough contest that could go either way.

The game against the in-form Eagles men’s outfit, who have just come off of a strong win last weekend against Willetton, is a must win game for the Redbacks’ men’s team to have any chance of making the finals this year.  Key big-men match-ups include the Redbacks’ Michael Vigor, Earl Nurse, Reece Dempster and Chris Lynch up against the Eagles seven footer Tom Jervis along with Jarrad Balcome, Aaron Wigg and former Perth Wildcat Ben Thompson.

Also vital to the outcome will be whether the Redbacks’ guards Joel Wagner, Jarrad Prior and Ryan Neill can gain the ascendancy over Eagles players John Taylor, Andrew McLennan and Israel Mohamed.

The women’s game starts at 6PM and the men’s game at 8PM in what will be two toughly fought hard contests.
