Eagles teams fade away

THE East Perth Eagles men’s and women’s sides were unable to finish season 2009 in style after both suffered losses in State Basketball League fixtures last weekend.

The women Eagles, who had experienced a late-season boost with the addition of Australian Opals forward Carly Wilson to the side, were unable to continue their four-game winning streak as they went down 65-57 to Lakeside Lightning at Lakeside Recreation Centre.

The loss meant East Perth finished a game outside the top eight, but the side will be buoyed by its encouraging late-season form that saw it catapult into finals contention.

In the men’s competition, league-leaders Lakeside proved far too strong for East Perth as they powered to a 118-78 win on Saturday night.
