Redbacks bow out of finals

Both Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks’ men’s and women’s teams bowed out at the quarter finals-stage of the State Basketball League play-offs last weekend.

The Redbacks’ men’s team lost in the best of three series against the top qualifying side, Lakeside Lightning, one game to two.  Although one-game up after their stunning 96 to 89 point the previous weekend at their home venue, the Redbacks were unable to capitalise in the next two away games losing to 81 to 105 on the Friday night game and 85 to 98 in the deciding Saturday night game.

The top-scorer for the Redbacks on Friday night was USA import Chris Lynch with 27 points along with 9 rebounds.  Point guard Joel Wagner was their next highest scorer with 16 points and 2 assists while power-forward Reece Dempster scored 10 points and brought down 5 rebounds.

Lynch was again the Redbacks’ highest scorer on Saturday night with 24 points along with 14 rebounds.  Guard Jarrad Prior was their next highest scorer with 16 points while Centre Michael Vigor also scored 16 points and brought down 7 rebounds.

Coming into the weekend one-game down against the Mandurah Magic in the best of three-series, the Redbacks’ women’s team bowed out in “straight-sets” after losing the second play-off game 67 to 83.   Their top-scorer was forward Frances Clark with 15 points along with 6 rebounds.  Guard Kerise Delcoure was the next highest scorer with 13 points while 17-year-old guard Jacinta Bourne scored 9 points and brought down 10 rebounds.

This weekend’s women’s semi-finals see the Mandurah Magic facing the reigning premiers and top-qualifying side Perry Lakes Hawks, while the Willetton Tigers will be playing the Kalamunda Eastern Sides in a best of three series.  The men’s semi-finals see the Perry Lakes Hawks up against reigning premiers the Kalgoorlie Giants, while the Lakeside Lightning will be up against the Geraldton Buccaneers.
