Subi Girl Sweeps MVP Votes in State League

Subiaco born, Brooke Hiddlestone cleaned up the MVP votes in the Women’s State Basketball League on Saturday night. Only 24 hours after being awarded MVP and Honour Roll benefits for the Perth Redbacks, Brooke Hiddlestone collected the League’s biggest accolade for women, beating out scores of players vying for recognition as the WSBL’s best female player.

Brooke Hiddlestone humbly accepted the honours and suggested to supporters an inevitable return in 2010 to collect her 300 game milestone and a no-holds-barred effort to capture the elusive championship flag.

Brooke’s season ended abruptly this year after suffering a knee injury in game one against the Mandurah Magic in Mandurah. On advice from doctors, Brooke sat out the remainder of the finals series to prevent a potentially life-altering injury - putting her out of sport completely. The Perth Redbacks weren’t able to recover from the loss of Brooke and Australian Opals hopeful, Renae Camino, subsequently losing game two at Belmont.

If you talk to any of Brooke’s teammates, they can tell you she is their version of ‘a rock’.  She is the stable, consistent, dependable player always contributing to the team no matter what the situation is. Brooke Hiddlestone is the quiet player who confidently goes about the business of destroying her opposition. She is every point guard’s dream; the ideal post with an idyllic composure! Brooke is the player that can find the perfect position to catch an imperfect pass and just as quickly as she completes a basket, she nonchalantly runs back on defense. Brooke has the ability to create fear, inadequacy and awe in her opponent, forcing them into a more defensive and submissive role in her wake.

Brooke does what she does with personality and quirkiness. Her impressive blend of fun, experience and competitive spirit is inspirational to her teammates and to say she is greatly respected may well be an understatement.
