Redbacks Win Over Singapore National Team

The Perth Redbacks Men’s State Basketball Team had a spectacular 92 to 70 win against the Singapore National Team.

The game was played on the new show-court at the Brother Paull Centre at Aquinas College before a 300-plus crowd.

This game follows the recent international four-nations series played in Broome between the Perth Wildcats, Singapore Slingers, Shanghai Sharks and the Indonesian National Team.

Redbacks’ coach David Harris thanked RV Sports and the Singapore team for agreeing to involve his team in this international fixture.

“Opportunities to play an international team are rare and provide an opportunity for the members of our squad to gain invaluable exposure to the next level of professional basketball.”

“To come away with a win is a fantastic achievement by our team and augers well for the future”, he said.

Perth Wildcats’ development player Ben Purser top-scored for the Redbacks with 21 at a field goal percentage of 53 while bringing down 10 rebounds and making three assists and two steals.

Centre and fellow Wildcats’ development player Michael Vigor was their next highest with 19 also at 53% while bringing down 14 rebounds.

In his first game for the Redbacks since his return from the Ballarat Miners shooting guard Jarrad Prior scored 15 at 50% along with two rebounds, two steals and two assists.

Power-forward Shaun Bennison had 10 at 71% while bringing down five rebounds and small-forward Blake Smith scored nine and made three assists.

Veteran shooting guard Koh Meng Koon, who recently returned to the Singapore national team, was their top-scorer with 18 at 60% while bringing down three rebounds and making two assists.

Forward Lim Sheng Yu was their next highest scorer on 16 at 67 along with five rebounds, two assists and one steal.

The Redbacks thanks the Aquinas College for providing this high quality venue along with Blake Smith, Gary Prior, Sandra Bors, Margaret Prior, Vicki Bors, score-bench officials, statisticians and other helpers for making this game the success it was.

The crowd attendance indicates people are missing State Basketball League games and are already looking forward to the commencement of the 2012 season in March.
