WARREN MURDOCH..."It's just a gift".
On 10th December 2012, Warren Murdoch was honoured with the presentation of an award from Bowls SA, marking his 50 years service to lawn bowls.
The presentation was made by the President of the Lenswood Bowling Club Brian Scown, with Warren responding to speeches by former HBA President Graham Weyland, and Lower Murray Bowling Association Secretary Jack Pitcher.
Warren's impressive resume includes accolades at club, association and regional level.
A stalwart of the Lenswood Bowling Club, Warren has been president 7 times, treasurer 22 times, and has filled roles as bar manager, team manager, greenkeeper and selector. He has been club singles champion 7 times, pairs champion 10 times, and won 8 pennants.
He was the HBA Champion of Champions in 1984/85, won the Country Carnival fours 3 times, and has won the Southern Division fours and singles championship, and the Lush Shield. He was the State singles runner up in 1986, and a State second side representative at Hawthorn.
In addition, his service to the Hills Bowling Association is unmatched. He has served terms as president, vice president and treasurer - and has been an executive member for 17 years. He has served as country councillor, southern division delegate, association selector, and chairman of selectors.
He has been honoured with life membership of both the Lenswood Bowling Club and the Hills Bowling Association.
The presentation coincided with the start of the annual Warren Murdoch Tournament - conducted at the Lenswood Bowling club over 10th and 11th December 2012. The event, now in its 26th year, attracts bowlers from all over metropolitan and country SA - with bowlers coming from as far as Kangaroo Island to compete. The tournament itself is testimony to the high regard in which Warren is held by the bowling community.
