HBA CHAMP OF CHAMP PAIRS 2013

The HIlls Bowling Association Champ of Champs pairs event was played off at the Woodside Bowling Club on Sunday 24th February 2013.

Teams from all ten Hills clubs played off in knockout rounds, vying for a spot in the final.  John Vickers and Brian Scown of Lenswood recorded tight wins over Hahndorf and Gumeracha to secure their finals position - while Anthony Treloar and Joe Conte of Lobethal accounted for Mt. Barker and Oakbank.

The grand final was a nail biter - and despite the Lobethal pair having an early advantage, Lenswood fought back to take the lead in the closing ends.  Lenswood had snuck away to a four shot break going into the last end - with Lobethal needing five to win, or four to take the match to an extra end.  With both skippers about to deliver their final bowls - Lobethal were holding four shots.  Vickers with his final bowl cut the count back to three - and Treloar was agonisingly close to drawing the extra shot, but when his bowls just drifted through the head, the spoils went to Lenswood.

The Lenswood pair will now attempt to retain the Regional championship - which was won last year by the Woodside father and son team of David and Brett Norman.

Many thanks to the Woodside Bowling Club for hosting the event.  Special thanks to Alby Alberd, John Harrison, Peter Mangelsdorf, and all of the club members who helped with catering.  Also thank you to the Woodside Club sponsors - Woodside Hotel and KeyInvest.
