Successful Weekend for SDTA

Super League Series

Friday night saw the Mixed, Womens, and Mens Open teams compete in the grand finals of the 2012 Be Active Super League Series. After impressive round campaigns by all three teams it put them in the box seat to take out the series.

Our Mixed Open took on the Tompkins Park Sharks, after being down by three at half time they managed to come back to within one in the second half. However as the game went on Tompkins Park showed how strong they really were and took down our Stars 12-7. Our mixed will look to bring their A game to State Champs and go one better.

The Women's Open, went through the round games with only one loss and after a smothering of Northern in the semifinal they were into the grand final against Fremantle. The girls broke out to an early lead of 4-2 at half time but Freo took it to them in the second half and the girls put on a late touchdown to win 6-5.

For the Mens Open it was another grand final against Wanneroo. The game was definitely the most challenging of the series. At half time neither team could get ahead the score sat at 3-3. In the second half it was much the same and when the final siren went the score was locked at 5-5. Both teams took the the field with 5 for the start of the drop off and within the first set of six, Andrew Knox crossed for Southern, after one super set of defence the game was called and Southern were crowned champions for 2012.

Congratulations to the Men's & Women's Open - Super League Champions 2012, and to Claire French who was named Most Valuable Player for the womens division.
