The Canterbury Hockey Association aims to deliver a Representative programme that allows players to excel at the national level and results in Canterbury being the most successful province each and every year. In 2008 Canterbury won more national titles than any other province (seven) and had 14 of 20 A teams finish in the top three at the various national tournaments attended.
The process of selecting players, coaches, managers and umpires to represent Canterbury at various national and regional tournaments each year is directed by the Representative Policy, which can be viewed via the link below:

2009 Representative Team Trials
As dates for 2009 team trials become known they will be listed on the respective web page within this website for each team.
2009 Indicative Player Costs
The Canterbury Representative program utilises a user-pays fee structure for the common costs incurred by all teams (accommodation, air fares and rental vehicle hire). (Incidental costs such as player meals while at tournament are an additional cost that each team manager will convey to players.)
The program is split into three distinct sections, with each section applying an equalisation process across all teams within the section to offer consistency in cost from year to year. The sections and indicative costs for 2009 are:
National Hockey League - indicative cost $800 per player
Junior through Senior (Primary, Under 16, Under 18, Under 21 and Senior B) - indicative cost $850 per player ($575 for four day McGrath Trophy tournament attended by Primary B teams); reduced to $575 ($380 for McGrath Trophy) following the application of grant funding received to date
Masters - indicative cost $745; reduced to $625 following the application of grant funding
The Canterbury Hockey Association attempts to obtain grants for all representative teams to reduce the above indicative costs. However, there is no guarantee that funding applications will be successful and players need to engage on the understanding that they may be required to pay the full indicative cost.
Any players (and/or parents) that may struggle to pay these costs are invited to contact the CHA CEO, Tim Shannahan (email: ceo@hockeycanterbury.co.nz; phone: (03) 389 9126) to discuss the implementation of a payment plan or the option of accessing hardship funding from a variety of sources.
