The Te Waipounamu Maori hockey teams are the South Island representative teams that attend the annual Hockey New Zealand Maori Hockey tournament. This tournament has traditionally occurred over Labour weekend, however from 2009 the tournament is to be held over Queen's Birthday weekend.
The Canterbury Hockey Association endorses the participation of Canterbury players in these senior men's and women's teams.

2010 National Tournament
The 2010 tournament has been scheduled to be hosted by the Waikato region and will be held in Hamilton over the Queen's Birthday weekend.
2009 National Tournament
The 2009 national tournament was held in Auckland at Lloyd Elsmore Park over the Queen's Birthday weekend - Friday, May 29 to Monday, June 1 (inclusive).
The Te Waipounamu (South Island) teams that competed at the national tournament featured the following Canterbury players:

The Men's team finished sixth at the tournament, with the following results:
Lost to Waiariki 13-1
Lost to Tamaki Makaurau 11-0
Lost to Takitimu 9-0
Lost to Taitokerau (Northland) 7-4
Lost to Takitimu 4-3
The Women's team finished seventh equal at the tournament with the following results:
Lost to Tairawhiti 7-5
Lost to Tamaki Makaurau 20-1
Lost to Waiariki 12-0
Lost to Taitokerau 4-1
Drew with Tairawhiti 1-1
2009 Representative Honours
Canterbury players Dion Crighton, BJ Binnie and Steven Raika (non-travelling reserve) have been named in the New Zealand Maori Junior (Under 21) Men's team and Kayla Murray made the equivalent Women's team. The teams were selected following the completion of the New Zealand Maori National Tournament held in Auckland over Queen's Birthday weekend.
Both teams will play a series against Queensland later this year set for the weekend of October 2 to 4 in Rotorua.
The Senior Maori Men’s and Women’s teams travel to Fiji in December for an indigenous tournament hosted by Oceania Hockey. No Canterbury players were selected in these two teams.
