Nunweek Park has long been a home to hockey and specifically the Harewood Hockey Club.  In 1989 the Waimairi District Council, in conjunction with Canterbury Hockey, Harewood Hockey Club and the HSOB / Burnside Hockey Club, installed Christchurch's second artificial hockey playing field within Nunweek Park.  This field is a sand-based wet-dressed turf surface, different to the water-based fields at Porritt Park.
