The Junior Competition is highly regarded as one of the best hockey competitions in New Zealand for primary and intermediate school-aged children. It offers the opportunity for participants to play matches suited to their physical development and ability level, including 6-a-side, 8-a-side and 11-a-side options. The competition is delivered in the winter months of April to September.

Competition Grade Prescriptions
The structure of each grade within the Junior Competition is outlined in the respective prescription below:

11-A-Side Competition Structure
Eight entries have been received for the Boys' competition and 14 for the Girls' Premier 1 and 2 competitions. In addition eight Premier 3 Girls entries have been received to date.
The Boys' competition will be run along a traditional format commencing on April 4th.
The Girls' competition will accommodate all 14 Premier 1 and Premier 2 entrants, who have been placed into seeded pools. The link below provides an explanation as to how the initial part of the season will achieve the desired outcome of dividing these 14 teams across Premier 1 (six teams), Premier 2 (six teams) and Premier 3 (2 teams, plus the teams that enter directly into that grade) by the completion of matches on July 4.
Premier 1 & 2 Girls' Competition Structure
The minimum number of games played for any team will be 15, with the maximum 17. There is one spare week to allow for any wash outs and CHA reserve the right to adjust the draw should there be further disruptions by the elements.
