The Canterbury Hockey Association's Senior Competition is its premier winter competition for open age players. This competition includes as its pinnacle the Canterbury Premier Leagues for Men and Women, with additional divisions below this to cater for a wide range of skill levels. There is even a Mid Week option for players that are not able to play on the weekends and for those that remember the 'good old days' of playing on grass, there is also still a Grass Grade.
In terms of playing dates, the following is the typical arrangement for each grade by the day of the week:
Canterbury Premier League (CPL) Men & Women - Saturdays
Divisions 2 through 5 Men & Women - Sundays
Mid Week Men - Mondays
Mid Week Women - Tuesdays
Grass Grade Men & Women - Saturdays

Playing Dates
The 2009 Senior Competition will commence on the weekend of Saturday, March 28. The playing dates for the season are:
March 28-31
April 4-7, 18-21, 25-28
May 2-5, 9-12, 16-19, 23-26
June 6-9, 13-16, 20,23, 27-30
July 4-7, 11-14 (except CPL), 18-21, 25-28
August 1-4, 8-11, 15-18, 22-25, 29-September 1
Structure of each Grade
The information provided below should be considered as a guide only at this time. While team entries have been received and the following is based on those entries, it is always possible that additional entries will be received or teams will withdraw.
Canterbury Premier League Men
6 team competition played over 20 weeks
16 weeks (15 for round robin and 1 for finals) will be used to contest the CPL Men's Championship
4 weeks (April 18, May 2, May 9 & July 4) will be used to contest the CPL Men's Porritt Cup
Division 2 Men
10 team competition played over 21 weeks
21 weeks (18 for round robin and 3 for finals) will be used to contest the Division 2 Men's Championship
No Division 2 Men's Porritt Cup will be contested in 2009
Division 3 Men
8 team competition played over 21 weeks
16 weeks (14 for round robin and 2 for finals) will be used to contest the Division 3 Men's Championship
5 weeks (April 19, April 26, July 5, July 12 & July 19) will be used to contest the Division 3 Men's Porritt Cup
Division 4 Men
7 team competition played over 21 weeks
16 weeks (14 for round robin and 2 for finals) will be used to contest the Division 4 Men's Championship
5 weeks (April 19, April 26, July 5, July 12 & July 19) will be used to contest the Division 4 Men's Porritt Cup
Mid Week Men
'A' Grade of 6 teams and 'B' Grade of 7 teams, playing over 21 weeks
'A' grade will play 16 weeks (15 for round robin and 1 for finals) to contest the Mid Week 'A' Men's Championships
'B' grade will play 16 weeks (14 for round robin and 2 for finals) to contest the Mid Week 'B' Men's Championship
Porritt Cup will be played over 5 weeks (April 20, April 27, July 6, July 13 & July 20) with three separate divisions, with the 13 teams across both 'A' and 'B' split into Top 4, Middle 4 and Bottom 5 groupings
Grass Grade Men
4 team competition played over 15 weeks
15 week round robin will be used to contest the Grass Grade Men's Championship
Canterbury Premier League Women
8 team competition played over 20 weeks
16 weeks (14 for round robin and 2 for finals) will be used to contest the CPL Women's Championship
4 weeks (April 18, May 2, May 9 & July 4) will be used to contest the CPL Women's Porritt Cup
Division 2 Women
8 team competition played over 21 weeks
16 weeks (14 for round robin and 2 for finals) will be used to contest the Division 2 Women's Championship
5 weeks (April 19, April 26, July 5, July 12 & July 19) will be used to contest the Division 2 Women's Porritt Cup
Division 3 Women
8 team competition played over 21 weeks
16 weeks (14 for round robin and 2 for finals) will be used to contest the Division 3 Women's Championship
5 weeks (April 19, April 26, July 5, July 12 & July 19) will be used to contest the Division 3 Women's Porritt Cup
Division 4 Women
8 team competition played over 21 weeks
16 weeks (14 for round robin and 2 for finals) will be used to contest the Division 4 Women's Championship

6 team competition played over 21 weeks

14 week round robin will be used to contest the Grass Grade Women's Championship
