The Canterbury Junior Super Six tournament is played annually in the April school holidays. The tournament represents the opportunity for clubs, schools and neighbouring associations to enter their best junior players in a two day six-a-side competition early in the season.
2009 Pica Print Junior Super Six
This year's Pica Print Junior Super 6 Tournament saw 22 teams play a total of 166 games over two days for the respective trophies. In what was without a doubt the most even competition for several years Selwyn came through as winners on the boys' side beating HSOB in a very tight final 6-5, which repeated the 1 point margin of their round robin game. The game featured the two stand out boys players of the tournament - Ben Dowers for Selwyn and David Brydon for HSOB.
The girls' final saw HSOB break a three year stranglehold on the trophy by Harewood in a final that featured the two unbeaten teams in the competition. HSOB went into the final slight favourites as they had been on a goal scoring spree in the round robin section averaging over 22 points per game. After a tight first half HSOB ran out the well deserved winners 12-3 in a game that was much closer than the final score might suggest. There were some standout performances from Sophie Radanovich on defence for Harewood and captain Catherine Tinning was tireless and deserved sharing the player of the tournament award with St Margaret's/Selwyn House's Phoebe Steele. For HSOB Grace Curtis picked up 2 goals with some excellent finishing and captain Fran Sylvester saved her best game of the tournament for the final with an excellent work rate on attack and defence.
