The Canterbury Hockey Association is the regional sport organisation responsible for the delivery of the sport of hockey in the Canterbury province, which includes Christchurch City, Waimakiriri District (excluding an area in the west of the Oxford-Eyre ward under the jurisdiction of the Malvern Hockey Association), Selwyn District (excluding the Malvern ward, and an area in the north-west of both the Selwyn Central and Ellesmere wards which all fall under the jurisdiction of the Malvern Hockey Association) and Hurunui District.

The foundation document that outlines the status and governance structure of the Canterbury Hockey Association is its Constitution. The current Constitution was established in 1989 following the merger between the men's and women's associations, with revisions in various years since 1989. The current strategic direction of the Canterbury Hockey Association is outlined in its Strategic Plan, 'Securing Hockey's Turf'. The primary focuses of this plan are improved management processes, the development of additional artificial turfs to play the sport and delivery of programmes that better address the needs of the hockey community.
