Junior Representative Trials

About

 The Sutherland District Basketball Association aims to:

  • Provide a quality program in order to develop and improve the skills of all players and coaches
  • Provide a wide range of Sharks Development programs designed to encourage and inspire athletes
  • Identify appropriate pathways for all players and coaches at both State and National level
  • Develop an “Association” style of play to assist in the education of all players and coaches and to ease the transition for players and coaches between age groups
  • Compete in Division One for all ages with a development group to compete in the next division

Philosophy

  • To make sure players get the opportunity to reach their potential with an emphasis on learning and mastering the fundamentals of the game.
  • To play hard with up tempo offence and pressure defence.
  • To promote: unselfish play, good sportsmanship, pride in the uniform and enjoyment of the experience.

Team Selection

SDBA will  endeavour to enter two teams in each age group and gender (U/12, U/14, U/16, and U/18) dependent upon player availability within age groups.

Player Eligibility

To be eligible for selection players must:

Be registered with Basketball NSW & registered/affiliated with Sutherland Basketball Association

Currently play Local Competition at SDBA or acknowledge in writing on this form the requirement to play.

The Trials Process:

There will be two open trials in 2020 - 29th November and 6th December 2020

followed by two invited trials in 2021 - 31st January and 7th February 2021

it is expected that all players who wish to be selected for representative teams in 2021 attend both open trials   unless granted exemption for one of the following reasons

Being unable to trial because of injury/illness (Medical Evidence must be provided)

Inability to gain release from an elite sports program or school event(Written evidence must be provided)

A prior family commitment. Eg Wedding , family holiday

Any player who believes they have a legitimate reason for being unable to attend trials must apply in writing to SDBA on this form prior to the first trial to be considered in the selection process.

All players must pre register and pay the $20 trial fee online before the first trial

All players should :

arrive 15 minutes prior to trial and receive an ID number on their arm

bring a light /dark singlet, a basketball and water bottle

Players from other Associations wishing to trial for Sutherland must bring a completed permission to trial form before being allowed on court.

Team Selection

Following the final trial, squads of up to 24 players will be announced on the website on Wednesday 13th November.

Players named in squads must attend two squad training sessions before final teams are selected. Squad training dates will be held on 15th 16th 17th 22nd 23rd and 24th November with team specific times and days TBA. Uniform fittings for new players and those who require a new uniform will be organised during squad training sesssions.

Following the final Squad training sessions,teams will be announced on the Website on Wednesday 27th November

Each junior team will consistof 10 players. 

Up to two development players(reserves) may be selected in each team
