The umpires train at the City Oval Ballarat at 5.30pm each Monday and Wednesday.

Training predominantly involves fitness work, and a combination of umpiring skills, and theory/coaching sessions.

There are three disciplines in umpiring - field, boundary and goal umpires, and each discipline has its own coaching staff and training activities.

All new umpires are required to undertake the AFL's accreditation program, which is delivered as part of an umpire's training and development.
