While most of the umpiring panel are happy to remain involved at the local level, some new umpires embark as a footy umpire with an aspiration to take their skills to the highest level achievable.
During each season nominated umpires are assessed under matchday conditions by BFUA Coach's, VCFL Umpiring Development Managers, and AFL Victoria's umpiring development 'talent scouts'. Successful umpires are then invited to pre-season trial in AFL Victoria's development squad.
This process mirrors the development of any young footballer with ambitions to achieve at the highest level.
The Ballarat Football League Umpires Association are proud that several of our junior umpires have gone onto umpire at AFL level.
