Season Preview

Anakie

Sarah Monaghan has been appointed as the new Senior coach, having completed previous senior coaching roles in the Riverland Netball Association (SA) & Sunraysia Football Netball League (VIC).  The focus at Anakie has changed this year, with a youth policy implemented to develop players for the future.  The A/B grade line up will include new recruits in Lucy Vercher, Elise DeMunari, Celest DeMunari, Elise O'Halloran and Rebecca Wall.  The coaching staff will be working closely with players on skill development and hope to see an overall improvement on the results of previous years.
New courts should be available for use as early as June 2009 (maybe, possibly, probably)...

BANNOCKBURN

Bannockburn enters the 2009 season with new coaches, a new look and an influx of new players across all grades.

The Tigers will be coached by club stalwart Deb Arklay, who takes charge of the A Grade, B Grade and 17/under teams.

Deb’s profile as a coach continues to grow through her role as co-coach of the GDFL’s two Raiders teams in the Parkville 17/under competition. She is a great communicator and always enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge of the game.

Steve Lange returns as C Grade coach; Leanne Brauman joins the coaching panel as coach of the new D Grade team; Sarah Arklay will resume her coaching career at the club with the 15/under team; and Abbey Watt takes on her first coaching role with the 13/under team.

The club’s senior players will take the court in a new uniform design this season after the club received funding from the Commonwealth Volunteer Grants Program.

A strong base of volunteers keeps the netball section running, and senior player Kath Kelly has this year taken on the role of netball committee chair.

A solid pre-season conducted by Karen Arnall, a member of last year’s GDFL Team of the Year, has the Tigers well-prepared for 2009.

New players include Mel Alsop, Melissa Dillon, Raquel Murdoch and Mary Archer. Jess Shaw returns after pregnancy, while Michelle Newell should again have a big impact on the A Grade side and teenagers Grace Kennedy, Taylah Rollo and Abbey Watt will be expected to continue their development at senior level.

New change rooms and a new sheltered area near the courts will provide added comfort for Bannockburn players and visiting teams.

2008 Finish: all Teams finished in the finals with our 15/U and 17/U managing to win the grand finals

Vision for the year.

As the senior coach of the Netball division, my vision is to firstly maintain the standard achieved over the passed three years as Club Champions. Reflecting on passed success and forecasting continuos improvement throughout the Club is first priority. We have lost some valued local experience however remain ever vigilant in the belief of being a fierce opponent to all opposition in 2009.

Belmont Lions

Coach: Justine Radford (across from Bell Post Hill)

We have recruited Justine Radford and her sister Nicole from Bell Post Hill, who will strengthen our mid court, with Nicole coaching our B grade side also.

Megan Cartwright has moved back to Grovedale and Becc Flanagan moved to Melbourne for work which is a big loss for the team. Bree McVilly and Narelle Foster last years coaches have left the club also.

The girls were disappointed with missing the finals in 2008 with a slow start to the season and quiet a few injuries plaguing girls towards the end of the season, but are very much looking forward to improving on that in 2009.

We are hoping to make finals in all grades this year, it is great we had enough numbers to turn up and fill a D grade side also. A grade have kept Jess DeGrandi, Lauren Roberts & Stacey Ward all in, with Tanya Wallace back from a knee reconstruction and have been bolstered with the likes of Justine and Nicole and also Louise Goette.

B grade looks to stay strong with many girls from last season returning to the club. We have many new players across C & D grade so hopefully have success in both grades. We are looking forward to a great year on and off the court. Go Lions 2009!

CORIO

2008 was a fantastic year for the Corio Netball.  With A grade narrowly missing out on a finals berth, which was severe blow to the girls who were strong all year and particularly produced stellar netball in the last few rounds.

B grade - Huge congratulations goes out to Tammy Eldredge and her B Grade girls on taking the 2008 B Grade Premiership title for 2008.    Also a big well done to Jamie Mathieson who took out player of the match, very well deserved.

C grade played very well in the 2008 finals series all the way to the qualifying finals to narrowly get beaten in the dying minutes.

Our U17’s made it all the way again to the big grand final but unfortunately couldn’t get over the line in the final minutes.  It had been toe to toe all year between the two tops sides

U15's made it to finals with a good run home.  They unfortunately lost the first final and then played off in the elimination final.  A great result for them to make finals due to changing of coaches so late in the season

U13's didn't make finals however definitely improved immensely throughout the season. With most the players aged 10 we had a very young and new side that worked hard all season to improve their games.

In brief: 2009 sees us keeping ex Kestral/ Firebird Michelle Rossoukas in the A grade player/ coach role.   VU state league player Sharni Carroll has stayed on board, as has last years U17’s runner up B & F junior and A grade player Brooke Mallia.  The introduction of talented Zalia Mathan will see command in our defence end with her ability to swing into goals is a valuable asset. Lastly with B grade striving for back to back premierships all in all the majority of our senior sides remain un-changed from season 2008, most defiantly giving Corio consistent depth and strength to season 2009.

EAST GEELONG

East Geelong juniors have been overwhelmed by new players wanting to join the

U/13 and U/15's side.  Also this year a new development program for Net Set Go

will also commence on a Saturday home game & we invite more players to attend these sessions.

We at East look forward to another happy and competitive year.

The 2009 GDFL season heralds a changing of the guard at East Geelong with a host of new faces joining the ranks over pre-season. Talented defender Amy Hardiman is the new playing head coach, taking over the reigns from Kirsti Bradley. The club has focussed heavily on teamwork and recruitment over the pre-season resulting in quality squads across all four grades. Key position recruits include Narelle Van Leerdam, Christie DeMooy and Emma Uebergang. Shae Rowbottom has come up from U15s to play regularly in the A grade side and club stalwart Rachel Baker will again control the centre court. For the Eagles this season it’s all about playing good quality netball. East Geelong is a fresh looking club with plenty of promise.

Geelong West Sporting Club

Coach: Carla Tresize (A & B) Skye Kania (C & D)
Ins:   GWSC has recruited well with new players in well combined shooters Sarah Reed and Kristy Kerrins.  Their precision in the ring will not go unnoticed.  Existing defenders Holly Fowler and Fiona Clarke will lead again out of defence with Kylie Graauwmans coming up from B Grade last year to provide extra defensive strength.
A speedy and youthful midcourt in Jane Neil, Sarah Sinclair and Allysha Turner has proved to be one of the key improvements in a much more competitive side this year.  Their dedication and skill set is one they are out to prove.  Jessica Hayes will return from ankle injury to be an adaptive all court player in all thirds of the court.
B Grade also have a new line up and look to be a promising side this year.  Jessica Yelland, Natalie Triggs, Sacha McRae and Cai Miles are all new to the club looking to make their mark.
Skye Kania will be coaching C and D Grade sides this year.  With experience and youth they will be teams to watch on 09.  The drive to continue to work hard will steer both teams to be competitive this year.
2008 Finish:  Being new playing groups will be the biggest challenge and trying to build on being competitive sides.  Playing sides that have played together for years is going to be difficult but it will be all about building on sides with a lot of potential.  We look to make a fresh start and prove we may well be a force for the future.
Statement about the Club:  Signs during preseason training have been encouraging with GWSC being able to fill both junior and senior sides this year.  Fresh faces on the committee and in our teams will be a great start to the season and we look to be moving forward in a positive direction.

Statement about the Club:- In season 2009 we would like to keep building on our success.  having had a solid pre-season we hope this will hold us in a good stead for the upcoming year,  with new recruits providing depth and versatility in their respective grades. D grade will add another dimension to the competition allowing our 17 and Unders to step and play some senior netball throughout the season.

Werribee Centrals

Here is our update for Werribee Centrals - 2009.  Our 2 netball courts are definitely on the cards for 2009.  We will probably have to play our first 3 home games at the Werribee Rec. Centre, Ballan Road.  We are looking forward all the way now, we can at last see a light at the end of the tunnel, our renovated club-rooms should be ready to go within the first week or 2 of the season, followed by our "much-awaited for" netball courts.  Followed by lighting, fences, players benches etc, etc,.  We have been working tirelessly alongside the Wyndham Council to obtain these netball courts - and I think we are officially or unofficially  "half-way" there.  The courts should be started probably within the next 3 weeks.

Under 15's & U17's - coached by Hailey Sildatke

For season 2009 we have managed to put an Under 15 side together.  This will be a very young side, and hopefully we'll keep them all around the club for a few more years to come.  Our Under 17's will be a combination of a few of last years U17's and a few new players we have picked up this season. Hailey will be focusing on developing their basic skills, and is looking forward to working with this very new selection of Juniors at Werribee Centrals.

A Grade - coached by Kristy Krywula, assistant coach Danni Stewart

Werribee Centrals are looking forward to the challenge in 2009.

The A Grade have picked up a couple of new players, Casey Price who will bring some extra height advantage into defence, Aysha Ward(Mickayla's younger sister) will be another valuable player for our club, at only 19yrs, she displays a lot of potential and hopefully will be seen playing alongside her sister.  Jackie McCauley will also be helping out in the goaling end this season, although she will also be valuable in our defence, Jackie will also add some height to our A Grade.  Danni Stewart will assist coach/captain this year, with Danni's athleticism and fast pace around the centre court, and with last year's A Grade Best & Fairest (GA - Mickayla Ward), Werribee Centrals A Grade are gearing up for the challenge. A Grade welcome back Hailey Sildatke, who previously played as a defender in A Grade. This year we are looking forward to seeing Hailey add even more strength to our centre court. Noni McClure is having a season off, but hopes to be back with Centrals in the near future. With the combination of the 2008 A Grade side, Hailey Sildatke and with the inclusion of our 3 new Werribee Centrals recruits, our  A Grade are looking forward to season 2009.

B Grade - coached by Amanda Nielson & Emma Maycock

Emma who has just recently given birth to a baby boy, will be back helping out her sister Amanda coach B Grade.  Emma(who played A Grade last year), will be a much valued centre court player for B Grade this year.  Amanda Nielson(who also recently had a baby boy) after having 18months off netball, will be great quality in goals for B Grade.  Amanda Wilson (last year's A Grade defender) will add her height and ability, and will prove to be a strong player in this year's B Grade side. We had a few new players at our Werribee Centrals Netball Selection Trials in January this year, and I think these new players will bring added strength all over the court to this B Grade side.

C Grade - coached by Tania Wallis

Tania will be focusing on getting her C Grade side to come together and be competitive during 2009. With this very mixed C Grade side, which is a combination of a few of last year's B Grade side, a few of last year's C Grade side, and a couple of new recruits, Tania will be working on skills, and best goaling/defence and centre court combinations. Tania has some good quality players to work with, and I'm sure she will have a quality C Grade side working well together in 2009.

D Grade - coached by Melinda Dobai

Melinda has been working hard at training sessions with her newly recruited D Grade side.  With a few players back with Centrals after a "season off", these players are training hard and will be ready to go.  With a couple of experienced players from last year's C Grade side, this team should combine well together all over the court.  I know Melinda will bring out the best in this newly formed group of players, they have the ability to compete and have a successful season in 2009.

Werribee Centrals Netball are looking forward to the start of the season, and I believe as a Club, we will be looking forward to playing some good netball, and hopefully strive towards playing in the finals series.
