Round 16 - split round (Week 2) selections

Saturday 18th August   A very BIG day at Kyabram where Paul NEWMAN will be presented with his Qualified Life Membership of the G.V.F.L. by virtue of playing 192 Senior games with the Bombers and having represented the GVFL in Interleague footy more than a dozen times including the last three years as our Captain when we have won the VCFL Country Championships. Truly a magnificent career by a truly marvellous young man. Congratulations Paulo – well done!! On the strength of this achievement, surely the Bombers can reward Paul with a win over Seymour. But; Ky will not get it their own way because Seymour simply must win to play finals and they of course have Saad SAAD. But with sentiment having a say, Kyabram to win (but not by much.)

Mansfield at home to Benalla to record of huge score – this is virtually the Mansfield Men v the Benalla Boys – the 3rd quarter cost Mansfield the points against Rochy last outing so Fraser will be drumming into his Eagles that they need to win every quarter – they should against the young Saints. Benalla will be as game as can be but unfortunately with so many youngsters they do run out of legs.

Probably the match of the round over at the Moon oval with huge interest on the result regarding ladder positions and premiership favouritism. Let’s hope that both sides will be at full strength. I wonder if both Guy CAMPBELL and Elliot BOWEN will play forward up against the League’s best defence?  This game could be billed the game of the year actually – AITKEN and WATSON v WELLINGTON and OWEN – KIRBY, LITTLE, BROWNING, CAMERON v CAMPBELL, BOWEN, BRENNAN, McLINDEN – BRAIN v BROADBENT – GLEDHILL v RYAN and then you throw in the kids – BRIGHT & MARRONE and the WILLIAMS boys Sean and Dillon v the SULLIVANS Thomas and James, Jayden YOUNG and Tommy MILLER – this is a real “must go to” game if there ever is one. Perhaps the defeat Tat inflicted on United was what the Demons needed but I can only see benefit to the winner of this match rather than the loser learning a thing or two. Damn hard to make a selection but because of MURPHY and CRAWFORD and Rhodes COUSLAND and Steven SHAW and Tommy DURWARD, Robbie MONTGOMERY, WARREN and LANYON the Bulldogs get the tip.

WATER BOYS and RUNNERS must be dressed accordingly and must perform their duties as per the rules. Each club has copies of the GVFL 2012 HANDBOOK which clearly spells out the duties of the water boys with the dress code to be white shorts or long white (cricket) trousers and the orange polo shirt – hoodies and other coloured long sleeved tops are not permitted under the shirt. Umpires have been requested to monitor these personnel. Please comply – thanks!
