The contest for the final six continues to be a battle royal with just five rounds to go before the finals, including today. Each round produced surprises, there are fluctuating fortunes continuously and once again today there are some games of vital importance to teams.
Mooroopna in fifth place at 8-5 are hosts to Echuca in third spot at 9-4 with both winners last round. The Cats went to Seymour last Saturday and in a tight contest got up by 14 points against the Lions who want to play finals and are knocking on the door. Robert OSBOURNE will ask the Cats to get the ball to Jayk PAPOULIS quickly so he can kick goals and add to his 28 for the season, likewise Phillip EVANS will be looking to Layton McCANN and Nicholas DENAHAY to boot the Murray Bombers to victory.
Euroa return home to host the Shepparton Swans after getting a touch up from Echuca last Saturday and Gavin WILLIAMS will have plenty of ammunition to fire at his troops after getting a caning from the Murray Bombers. Jett TROTTER will be looking to build on his 20 goals for the season but Mario De SANTA ANA will be calling on the Swans defenders to play stingy footy and keep the Magpies from kicking a winning score. The Swans will find the Magpies a lot tougher opponent then they found the Tigers last Saturday and they will be asked to go hard at the ball from start to finish because the Pies will be hurting after what happened at Echuca.
Shepparton and Kyabram is another important clash at Deakin Reserve. The Bears are 8th at 7-6 and Tim KELLY will tell his charges they can play finals footy if they get over the Bombers who are fourth at 8-5. Cody O’NEILL and Jack O’DONNELL have been kicking goals for the Bombers and Tony McDONELL will call on his mid field to find these players today and kick at winning score. Shepparton had to work hard for the four points against Mansfield in the hills last Saturday while Kyabram could not match it with Benalla which would suggest the Bears can start the day off with a victory.
The Mansfield boys will be looking for their sixth win for the season when they go to Tatura who are yet to get off the mark. Andrew NUNN will suggest to the Eagles they are still a chance to play in the finals and to make sure they don’t drop their guard against the Eagles.
Rochester are home to Seymour who know they can’t keep dropping games if they want to play in the finals. The Lions will be looking to Kyle WINTER-IRVING to kick a bag against the Tigers while Tim POOLE will lead the charge against the visitors who should return to the winners circle.
King of the castle, Benalla, should be too strong for Shepparton United who try hard and will be chockfull of confidence after downing Tatura last Saturday but they will find the Saints have too much fire power although the league’s leading goal kicker Charlie MORRISON played senior last Saturday against Kyabram.
