James Anwyl

James at present is a second year U/18 player and is currently being coached by his father Chris Anwyl.

James has played every senior game with the Mt Eliza FC this season to Round 3. James' first senior game was against Frankston YCW Round 1, kicking 2 handy goals at Full Forward making it a memorable occasion for James. His form so far has been outstanding and senior coach David Willett is very happy with James to date. Having watched James play against Chelsea, he showed he is certainly able to mix it with the older and more experienced players during a game. James posseses plenty of endurance and loves to lurk around the forward line always ready to bang one through the big sticks.  He disposes the ball well by hand and by foot having those silky skills that are a pleasure to watch.

This 18 year old from Mt Eliza, has had a interesting childhood living in Bruni with his family before moving back to Australia at the age of 14 when he then joined the under 14's who were coached by ex Mt Eliza Player Matt Hoffman, who is the son of the ex Swan and Bulldog rover, Steven Hoffman. From then on James' footy career gravitated having tasted success with a flag in the under 14's playing at Full Back, and winning the teams Most Improved player award. After speaking to his former junior coach Matt Hoffman he said he struggled to kick a ball at the age of 13. He praised James for the way he stuck at playing footy and remembers how he was a fearless competitor on game day.

Matt said he was very excited to see one of his young blokes playing senior footy at the Redlegs and he swears he will have bright future with the Red & Blue. He is certainly well liked at Mt Eliza and a genuine character and an absolute pleasure to coach, said David Willett

James is currently studying Bachelor of Environments at Melbourne University, so for this young 18 year old he is certainly already living a fairly busy lifestyle. James also said his father, Chris has had a major impact on his footy career, with plenty of encouragement and support along the journey.

James is very thankful of the support that his teammates and the club both junior and senior have given him over the journey.

We would like to congratulate James with his Young Gun nomination and wish him and the Mt Eliza FC all the best for the remainder of season 2009.
