Mount Albert Grammar vs Mahurangi College
Featuring some top New Zealand representative players like Destiny Grace, Gloria Murray-Fiu in Mags along with Ariaana Osborne, Brooke Moka, and sisters Kiritapu and Ruahei Demant for Mahurangi, this match-up was set to feature some classy play as the up and coming Mahu looked to lock horns with last year's Runners Up MAGs.
Playing like seasoned pros, MAGs play was structured, direct and error free; it payed dividends almost immediately with a touchdown in the middle of the field after a strong drive. This was soon followed by a pinpoint longball to see them up by two after five minutes of play.
For their part, Mahurangi always looked threatening on attack and were camped on MAGs' five for long periods. The girls in the blue and gold though had it covered where it mattered most. Mahu's Kiritapu Demant was always dangerous with some bullet-like passing a highlight of the half, although he efforts didn't see her team score.
MAGs went into halftime leading 3-0 with the match slowly slipping away from Mahuragi. The girls from Rodney though, started the second half with verve and narrowly missed out on touchdowns; they created enough opportunities but MAGs were always there to shut when it mattered.
Destiny Grace was the consummate smiling assassin, cutting through the line and creating opportunities for her links and wingers. This enabled MAGs to score two further touchdowns and seal a 5-0 win.
It's not over though for Mahurangi. This was their only loss of the day and they will play Hamilton Girls High School tomorrow morning for a place in the Final.
Final score: 5-0 Mount Albert Grammar
