Magpies Swoop to the Colts Premiership
Wudinna United followed up their minor Premiership with the Premiership. The match was played in warm conditions with a three goal breeze to the southern end. A good crowd had gathered, as this match was very open as to who would win.
The Magpies really took all before them, winning every quarter, even into the breeze. Highly motivated by coach Simon Petty’s pre game address, the players settled quickly, no sign of nerves. The Hawks boys worked hard, and were prepared to run and tackle hard.
The six goals to three third quarter assault by the Magpies cracked the game open, 42 point margin at three quarter time always hard to peg.
Jack Wilkins took out the ML O Brien Medal for best afield, seven goals pretty much a match winner, and lots of time down the ground also. Harrison Petty dominated the back lines, but his rucking effort turns heads. Ian Jericho in the air and on the ground, captain courageous. Logan Elliott played his last colts match and did so in a manner that he will always remember, strong at the contest and in the air and willing to work hard when he didn’t have it. Fraser Douglass played a great game either on the ball or up forward, and Sam Buckham playing a defensive role behind play for most of the game. Young guns Harry Scholz, Jeb Nettle worked well and enjoyed the big occasion, Brad and Ryan Lymn linked well with speed and work ethic and all the remaining team members played wonderful games.
Kyle Tucker was best for the Hawks, finishing a great year after an early injury. His run and ball use is something to savour. Zane Montgomerie is a star of the future, he seems to be able to have more time than others and just keeps getting it. Noah Legovini used his strength and speed to advantage, Declan Edmonds and Tom Shaw have had good final series and stood up all game. Harry Goosay is a natural forward and a reliable kick. A first option go to forward, he will kick big bags of goals in the future no doubt. Zeph Mohi has a big future and love the harder finals environment. Coach Dylan Kelsh will be proud of his players, their effort and application was first class.
The first Magpie Colt premiership since’96 so a long time in the waiting. Congratulations to Wudinna United – Colts Premiers 2014
