1. Don McSweeny, will be sadly missed, here in 2014 upon the announcement of Eyre Peninsula to become part of Norwood SANFL zone.

Many thousands of words have been written and said since the sad passing of Don McSweeny. I write to you on behalf of the Far West Football League, its administrators, players and supporters
It is difficult to measure the impact that Don had on our lives, however the passage of time is a wonderful guide in drawing conclusions on words of wisdom, support and counsel, discussions and disagreements and general contact over a lifetime of service to football and the community in general.
Colleagues of my age will continue to remember Don in this way for the rest our journey, however the real gauge of his life is the reality that young people of today will be speaking of him in revered tones fifty or sixty years in the future, what a wonderful and fully deserved legacy.
A man blessed with unique qualities, he embraced life with courage and dignity as evidenced to me shortly before he died.
He confided that the shadows were lengthening for him but then said with glint in his eye, “I have been so lucky, I am 84 years old, 83 of those I have enjoyed good health, I have a wonderful wife, family and friends, what else could a man ask for”?
Don was a Christian man who personified the quote in The Bible – Galatians 6:7 which says in part, “For whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap”.
Vale Don
