ROLE OF THE BENDIGO UMPIRES’ LEADERSHIP GROUP

1. Mentoring & Support:

  • To provide mentoring and support to all umpires.
  • To assist with umpire development where required.
  • Assist in resolving conflict/issues between umpires.

2. Feedback & Communication:

  • To assist in providing constructive feedback to umpires via observation when required.
  • To communicate issues & trends arising from matches to the coaching panel.
  • To assist with communication of key messages from meetings to all umpires.
  • To act as a two way conduit between the umpiring group and the coaching panel.

3.  Setting & Monitoring of Standards:

  • In consultation with the BUA executive & coaching panel, to assist in setting of standards in certain areas of umpiring. These include:

-          attendance at training & compulsory meetings;

-          dress code on match days;

-          communication with participating club players & officials;

-          umpire behaviour & conduct;

-          umpiring uniform presentation.

  • To assist in monitoring the adherence to umpiring standards.
  • When required, to counsel umpires who commit serious breaches of umpiring standards.
  • To review these standards when required.
  • To develop standards in other areas of umpiring where identified as being necessary.

4. Social Activities:

  • To encourage the participation of the whole umpiring group (Centrals, Boundary’s and Goalies) in social activities.
  • To assist in the running of social activities where required.

5. Member’s Involvement

We would ask Members to contact the Leadership Group with

  • Any idea’s they have that may benefit the BUA group as a whole,
  • Idea’s/suggestions on training  - methods, things to try, what you would like to work on etc. How to make it more interesting, how do we get more members there? etc.
  • Changes to meeting agenda’s – anything the members can see that would enhance this time,
  • Any umpiring questions a member may have regarding decisions, positioning or variation(if any) on local ruling to the VCFL handbook etc.
  • Any idea’s a member may have that may benefit the group regarding match day, 

As an example :-  Self assessment as a group (or in groups, centrals, boundary’s and goals) for a few minutes after the game, umpires outlining 2 things they did well on the day and 1 thing they would like to work on for the next game etc.
