TWEED BYRON DISTRICT BOWLS NOTES:
On December 3 the District WBA held their Break-Up Lunch and Presentations at Kingscliff Bowling Club. Blustery winds in the morning made bowling quite tricky for some of the ladies. However, not to be deterred by the conditions, everyone enjoyed their game. Winning rink went to Fay Turner, Joy Maree Quirk and Maisie Lincoln. Runners Up were Thelma Warr, Glenys Cartwright and Barbara Sprengel. Congratulations ladies. Presentation of Certificates and prizes to our District champions and runners-up, conducted by President Anne Mackay, was well received and appreciated by all in attendance. A big thankyou to Kingscliff WBC, hosts for this special event. It was a most enjoyable day.
Cabarita Beach WBC has a special Birthday girl this week. Maria Andrews will be 90 years young on December 16. Maria has been a member at Cabarita for 25 years. She bowls on a regular basis and thoroughly enjoys the game. Maria's favourite mantra is 'learn to play bowls - the bowlers will become your second family, and you will never be without a friend.' What a wonderful lady Maria is. Best wishes for a super Happy Birthday from all bowlers within the District are extended to Maria on her special day.
With Christmas just around the corner again, festivities are really winding up. Events on all the bowling calendars have been completed. This week Clubs are enjoying their break-up parties before going into recess until mid January, 2013. Pottsville WBC had an unexpected visit from none other than Mary Christmas, herself, this week. Seems Mary was out and about spreading greetings and good cheer to the bowlers. Much to the delight of the ladies, Mary also joined in for a game of bowls.
For bowlers interested in having a game during the recess period, these clubs offer the following: Kingscliff - Tuesday and Sunday afternoon 1 pm. Names to be in by 11.30 am; Pottsville - Friday afternoon open pairs (mufti) 4 pm. Names to be in by 3 pm; Condong - Mixed Mufti, Wednesdays 1 pm; 3 bowl pairs Thursdays 5 pm; Saturday 1 pm Mens and Ladies.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone. Keep safe and healthy. May your festive season be filled with peace, love and laughter.
