CENTRE INFO & FAQ's

SAYERS RD AUSKICK

WHERE & WHEN & HOW

The centre runs on Sunday mornings during the season with sessions starting at 9am and running until about 10.30am. The centre is located on the junior oval of Westbourne Grammar and entry is via the Sayers Rd gate that is located across from Poets Lane (refer to the map in the parents info page). The cost for 2010 will be advised in the new year but should be about $60 (this gets you your Auskick pack). Kids are welcome to have a try out week if they're not sure if it's for them. All kids up to grade 6 are welcome. Children under 5 years old are welcome to participate in our kinder group but parents must sign a permission form before their child starts.

FAQ's -

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT SAYERS RD AUSKICK?

Auskick is a weekly coaching program that provides kids with the opportunity to learn the skills of the great game of Aussie Rules Football as well as promoting a healthy and active lifestyle and providing a great social scene for kids to meet fellow football nuts. This is all mixed up of course with a huge emphasis on kids and parents having fun. Player visits by the Bulldogs and Werribee VFL players are a highlight for the kids each year as is the thrill of running out onto the MCG or the Dome for the kids lucky enough to get the opportunity. Our VFL half time grid games are open to everyone and are also a big hit with both kids and parents. Our family fun day with jumping castles and clowns has been a huge success and we have many more events in store for this year.

HOW DO I REGISTER?

The simplest way to register is online. Our online registration and payment page takes you right through the process. All you have to do is bring down the forms as outlined on the page and collect your pack. You can do so at our registration day at the start of the year (date, time and venue will be advertised on our events calendar) or at the first session you attend. If you don't have access to online registration you can obtain and fill out a form and pay by cash or cheque at either the registration day or the first session you attend.

WHAT TO WEAR?

At Auskick there is no set dress code. T-shirts, tracksuits, footy jumpers and shorts are all fine. Layering clothes to allow children to adjust if they're too hot or too cold is the best option. Footy boots are fine but be aware that early in the year the grounds can be hard and little legs and feet can quickly get sore. We have a boot bin so parents can take or leave pre-loved boots and save on buying a new pair.

MY CHILD ISN'T YET 5. CAN THEY STILL PARTICIPATE?

To participate in the official Auskick program children must be 5 years old however at Sayers Rd Auskick we offer a kinder program for any little brothers or sisters who want to join in. As children and coaches aren't covered by the Auskick insurance policy we ask that parents of children participating in the program sign a simple waiver. The sessions are run in a safe manner and focus on games as a fun way for the younger kids to get started.

AS A PARENT, HOW CAN I HELP OUT?

The simplest way to help out is just by getting involved on Sunday mornings and helping the session run smoothly. Every position at Auskick from the co-ordinator down is filled by a volunteer parent. They're what makes the centre tick.  Coaching, first aid, parent helpers, administration, sponsors, cooks, equipment co-ordinator, website contributions and fundraising are just some of the areas we need help in. If you would like to help out just let us know.

HOW IS SAYERS RD AUSKICK FUNDED?

In 2009 only $2.50 from each $55 registration ends up in our bank account. In the main, each Auskick centre is self funding and the amount of equipment the centre has and the standard it is maintained at is dependant on parent and sponsor contributions and the success of fundraisers such as BBQ's, drink sales and raffles. If you are able to help with funding in any way please let one of the co-ordinators know. Sponsorship packages are listed on the parents info page.

IS MY SON OR DAUGHTER READY TO PLAY?

This question comes up each year so to help, Old Westbourne juniors are offering Sayers Rd Auskick participants the chance to play a trial game to see how they go. Details of how to be a part of it are listed under the Old Westbourne future stars page. If you're still not sure follow the attached link to a helpful article written on the subject. www.doncasterheightsjfc.org/dhjfc_pdf/decision.pdf

HISTORY

Sayers Rd Auskick (or Vickick as it was then) was started in the mid 1990's to offer local kids and parents the option of a centre that ran on Sundays. Over recent years the centre has expanded with the local suburbs and in 2009 had 176 registered Auskickers ranging from kinder through to grade 6. This was up from just over 50 only two years earlier. The centre was originally located at the now defunct Westbourne Grammar school oval on the southern side of Sayers Rd before moving to the school soccer fields and then finally to our current position at the front oval of the school.

THIS WEEK

<<<<<<< Thanks to the Dennis Family Corporation and the Rose Grange Community Fund committee who have kindly given a grant to the centre.  Craig Newland, 2009 western region Auskick coach of the year, is pictured receiving the grant from Adele Levinge from the Dennis Family Corporation. The funds will be used to buy new equipment for the centre and to allow the centre to participate in more community activities.

Thanks to everyone for making 2009 a great year at Sayers Rd Auskick. Keep an eye out here and on our Facebook page for information regarding 2010. Registration and start up information will be posted early in the new year.

If you have any questions please send them to sayersroadauskick@gmail.com and we'll get back to you ASAP.

We look forward to seeing you all back in 2010.
