2012 FIJI OLYMPIC ORDER RECIPIENT - Dr. JAGDISH MAHARAJ

Dr. Maharaj’s nomination from the Fiji Paralympic Committee cites he “has contributed immensely and extensively to Sports Development, Sports Administration, Management, Sports Medicine and Classification since 1979 with both able-bodied as well as disabled sports at local, regional and international levels, including the Olympic and Paralympic Movements.”

He was instrumental in the initial establishment of the Fiji Sports Association for the Disabled, now the Fiji Paralympic Committee and has been involved with Boxing, Football and FASANOC’s Medical Commissions plus numerous other organizations where he has served on a completely volunteer basis for 34 years.

He has organised numerous National Games, Administration and Coaching Workshops for persons with disabilities as well as conducted Sports Classification Workshops for Fiji and the Oceania region.   Dr Maharaj has worked tirelessly behind the scenes, closely with athletes with disabilities to promote grassroots as well as elite athlete development for Fiji, Oceania and the wider region.

As Fiji Team Manager and Physician and in other administrative roles he has worked selflessly for tournaments and competitions, including the Olympics and Paralympics, from 1986 to the present.  Currently Dr Maharaj serves on the Oceania Paralympic Committee and is also an Athletics International Classifier on the world body of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

In recognition of his true exemplary qualities FASANOC is extremely pleased to confer the FIJI OLYMIC ORDER to Dr JAGDISH MAHARAJ.
