State Award Winners

Parkes & District Amateur Soccer Association Inc. wishes to congratulate Malcolm and Roberta Stone on receiving their State Awards at the Football NSW State Dinner held in Sydney on Saturday 15 October 2011.

Malcolm has been involved in soccer for well over 20 years. During this time Malcolm has been a player, referee and a member of the Parkes, Lachlan and Parkes Soccer Referees committees as well as a Coach.

In 1995 Malcolm started his coaching career and during this time he coached a variety of local club teams in all age groups as his children grew up playing in the junior ranks. During this time Malcolm had great success with his coaching and got great pleasure out of seeing all the young players improve their skill level and enjoy the wonderful game of soccer.

Coaching wasn’t the only thing Malcolm has done over his long career in the round ball game; in 1996 he became a member of the Parkes District Soccer Referees Association. During this time Malcolm has held a number of positions including Appointments Officer and in recent times being Treasurer of the branch, a position that he still hold to this day. In 2010 Malcolm was awarded Life Membership of the Referees Branch.

Being a beloved soccer fan Malcolm couldn’t help but volunteer his time to the Parkes Association in which he has been on the committee for over 10 years which includes being the Association President for 12 years. But Parkes wasn’t the only Association Malcolm has held positions on, he has been President of the Lachlan Amateur Soccer Association for 10 years and has been the Lachlan Association representative to Western during this time. In 2008 Malcolm was awarded Life Membership of the Parkes Association.

Malcolm’s wife Roberta has been involved in soccer for well over 15 years with the Parkes and Lachlan Association as well as running a local club.

In 1995 Roberta started her association with soccer in the local community taking over the Parkes East club, a club which her children played for, which later amalgamated with another Parkes club and changed its name to Billabong Soccer Club. Since this time their has been no turning back for Roberta.

In 1998 Roberta took on her first role with the Parkes Association as the Competition Secretary, a job which can take up a lot of time, but Roberta always manages to come up with the goods and get the job done.

In 2008 Roberta was awarded Life Membership of the Parkes Association, an award that she thoroughly deserved.

The Parkes Association wasn’t the only Association that Roberta dedicated her time to as in 2003 she became the Competition Secretary of the Lachlan Association and held this position up until 2010. She has also been the Western representative for the Lachlan Association and has held this position for 2 years.

Malcolm and Roberta join David Parker as the only Parkes people to receive the State Award after David received his award in 2010. David has been involved in soccer since 1967 when he started playing at the age of 6. During his playing career David represented Parkes and the local area in various age groups and competitions during his long playing career and even still to this day he takes the field for his beloved club of Parkes Rovers when they are short of players.

In 1984 David started his coaching career and during this time he coached a variety of local club teams in all age groups. As his children grew up through the junior ranks David starting taking on coaching representative teams in the Western Youth League having great success with him seeing the young children improve their skill levels in which he got great pleasure in seeing this happen.

Coaching wasn’t the only thing David has done over his long career; in 1990 he became a member of the Parkes District Soccer Referees Association and still referees to this day. During this time David has held a number of positions ranging from President to Appointments Officer. In 2005 David was awarded Life Membership of the Referees Branch.

Being a beloved soccer fan David couldn’t help but volunteer his time to the Parkes Association in which he has been on the committee for 19 years serving 1 year as President and 18 years as Secretary, a position he still holds today. But Parkes wasn’t the only Association David has held positions on, he has been the Secretary of the Lachlan Amateur Soccer Association since 1995 and on the board of Central West Soccer/Football NSW Western Branch since 2004 and been the Lachlan Association representative to Western for 20 years

In 2005 David was awarded Life Membership of the Parkes Association and then in 2009 he was awarded the same honour with Football NSW Western Branch for his dedicated services to these Associations.

The Parkes Association once again wishes to congratulate Malcolm, Roberta and David on receiving these awards and would like to thank them for all their time and effort they have put into the sport of soccer in Parkes.
