Cameron awarded Life Membership of Parkes Referees branch

Parkes District Soccer Referees Association Inc. has awarded its 4th member of the branch Life Membership after Cameron Stone was nominated prior to the Annual General meeting of the association in early April. Cameron now joins fellow Life Members Jason Baxter, David Parker and his father Malcolm Stone as recipients of the prestigious award.

Cameron has been involved in soccer in Parkes since he was 5 when he first stared his playing career, in the year 2000 at the age of 12 he then took up refereeing and following in his father’s footsteps who started referee a few years before hand. During Cameron’s time as a referee he has refereed at various State competitions in Parkes and Mudgee as well as local competition games in Parkes and the Lachlan Associations.

In 2003, at 15, Cameron then took on the Secretary’s position of the association and in the years to come also became the Appointments Officer and Branch Coach. After 9 years in the Secretary’s position Cameron stood down from the position for the 2013 season due to his current coaching commitments with the Western NSW Mariners U15 boy’s team which participates in the Football NSW Regional Youth League and the upcoming birth of his and his wife’s (Tiffany) first child. In 2004, at the age of 16, Cameron was one of the first 3 referees in NSW to be awarded a Provisional Grade 3 qualification under the old grading system, which enabled him to referee senior games in the Lachlan Amateur Soccer Association which was quite an achievement being able to referees players much older then what he was.

Cameron still currently holds the Branch Coaches position within the association and offers his time when available to assist and help develop the up and coming junior and senior referees of the branch and encourages anyone who is interested in becoming a referee to get in touch with someone from the association to put their name forward for the next course that will be run by the associations.
