History

INTRODUCTION

South Coast Futsal Club is the Illawarra and South Coast regions representative body in the NSW Futsal State League Competition. Aligned under Football Federation Australia and NSW Football, the Club is also a part of the South Coast Football Committee (a member of the Illawarra Football Memorandum of Understanding) which enables the Club to represent the region and participate in the planning for the region.

The NSW Futsal State League Competition runs throughout the summer months (September – February) as the premier competition in Australia. South Coast Taipans, currently (2010) compete in the super league with strong ambitions for premier league in 2011-12.

BACKGROUND

The establishment of the Club in 2007 was instigated by local friends and family members that have been associated with representative Futsal for many years. The Club was registered in 2007 for two main reasons;

1. Provide a local platform to showcase the Futsal talent in the Illawarra

2. To provide an opportunity for players to compete consistently at the highest possible level

In 2008, the scope of involvement spread further with greater communication across existing indoor centre competitions in Wollongong, Shellharbour, Bomaderry and Batemans Bay. In addition to this, the Club moved from the Illawarra Sports Stadium to the Illawarra Sports High School Gymnasium and now back again to the Illawarra Sports Stadium.
