About Us

History. International Rules Basketball was introduced into the Hills thanks to two local soldiers John Masters and Don Scott when they returned from Borneo after serving in World War II. After cessation of hostilities and whilst awaiting transport home, the Americans introduced them to the game of International Rules basketball. With their help interest was growing and a six (6) team men's competition was held in 1946 with matches played in the Mount Barker Showground Pavillion. In 1967 the men's and women's competition was formed.  Today two (2) of the original clubs are still playing, Scotties with a women's team and Zodiacs who have a senior men's and junior boys and girls program. Also, refer to our history on Wikipedia...

Present. The Eastern Hills Basketball Association (EHBA) is affiliated with SA Country Basketball. We run competitions for boys and girls from U/10's through to U/18's, an active senior competition (including Over 35's Men), a recently started IBP program, and participation in both Senior and Junior Country Championships. All of our games are played Monday to Thursday in Mount Barker. All games are currently played at the St Francis de Sales College Community Centre.

We welcome anyone who would like to become involved with the Association, as a player, an umpire, or a committee member.  Please contact us by visiting the office from 4.45 pm onwards Monday to Thursday (located downstairs at the Adelaide Hills Recreation Centre), ringing the office on 8391 2920 (during the above times), call the Admin Manager, or send an email to ehba.office@gmail.com

Hills Hornets. EHBA enter teams in the SA Country Championships in the Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, and Under 18 age groups. Trials for new and existing players are held in July/August each year. Information about trial dates and times is distributed to clubs, as well as being placed on the website and notice boards. The Hornets Junior program provides opportunities for players to participate at Association level basketball. Key aspects of the program include:
* Continual individual and team skill development
* Instilling a dedication and determination to improve
* Commitment to the individual, the team, and the association
* Enjoying the game of basketball
Please Note: Updated information for Hornets trials is under the Hornets section on this website.

Development. The Association is keen on developing players to maximise their chances of reaching their potential to a higher level. Players who are able to learn the basic skills and concepts at a younger age will find it easier to adapt to the tactical concepts at an older age. Our emphasis is on teaching:
* The fundamentals of dribbling, passing, and shooting
* Team and individual concepts for motion offense
* Team and individual concepts for man to man defense

Tournaments. The Association enters teams in the Murray Bridge tournament which runs over the three days of the October long weekend in Murray Bridge and the Greater Southern Tournament which runs in early December in Victor Harbor, there also is a third tournament which is encouraged but not compulsory. It is compulsory for all players in the Under 12 to Under 18 age grade to compete in all scheduled games during the SA Country Championship in March. Further information is available in the Player/Parent Handbook.
