Two wins in a row for Wildcats

The Warwick Wildcats made it two wins in a row by claiming the scalp of number 4 side, Gold Coast on Sunday afternoon. Warwick won 68-59 after trailing at half time and three quarter time. Declan Starasts and Mike Matthews once again shared the top scoring with 18 points each.

The Warwick Wildcats get this weekend off as the whole league takes a break for one week. The Wildcats are coming off of two wins in a row as they start to show other teams just how much of a threat they will be with their full strength team starting to get cohesion happening. Next weekend will see them play a double header weekend with a game against Redlands on Saturday night, before returning to Warwick on Sunday to take on the Ipswich Force. Two wins would see Warwick move into the top 6-10 (depending on other results) for the first time, after three losses to start the season saw them in last, or 15th spot.

“These two games are winnable for us” said Coach Clark. “We have shown over the last two weeks that this team can beat top ranked teams, so playing the bottom two teams this weekend should be a realistic achievement for us. The only thing that could work against us is complacency. No win in this league is automatic, and we will be going out there with intensity, hoping to not only win, but to try to win by as large a margin as possible. Our for-and-against is one of the worst in the league due to our three big losses to start the season. If we want to feature in the finals, it is important to win all of the games ahead of us, while trying to work our way back in the points difference. We’ll take each game one at a time, and focus on what we can do best each week; as for the rest of the teams, we cannot control what they do. We’ll keep training hard and keep trying to improve our game”

The Warwick Wildcats will be holding a sausage sizzle this Saturday morning at Supa IGA to raise some money. Fans can meet the players between 8am and 1 pm.
