Multicultural

Football Federation SA Multicultural Development aims to increase the number of New Arrivals to Australia and culturally linguistic and diverse (CALD) community members playing football. There are also sustained efforts to increase the participation rates of Indigenous players into the game.

Multicultural Development encompasses a wide variety of development programs run with the assistance of various partners for a range of clients from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. All are to some degree experiencing a disconnection from the wider community and/or a lack of opportunity to engage with a sport which for many is their “first sport.”

Multicultural Development also assists various groups and agencies to run programs and football events for New Arrival communities, refugees and asylum seekers. It also seeks to increase the number of coaches and referees from these backgrounds in football to provide diversity and equity within the local game.

Multicultural Development works to make contact with new Australian communities to facilitate their access to the game in many ways. This can be through establishing partnerships with schools that have significant New Arrival demographics to working with Councils, service providers and local clubs to facilitate access to playing opportunities. At schools we run weekly mini-leagues, coaching programs for a range of abilities and inter-school tournaments. We connect with local Councils and service providers to provide access to high quality coaching for New Arrivals and to extend knowledge about further ways in which to engage with the sport. This can be through developing connections to local clubs that enable people to play regular football for fun and/or competition.

FFSA Multicultural Development also plays a key role in the delivery of a Refugee Week Multicultural Soccer Carnival and the annual African Cup of Nations. We are keen to work with New Arrival Communities to put on other events throughout the year. These might be community come and try days or local tournaments and carnivals. If you have a community event planned and would like FFSA to be involved, please let us know.
