Community Coaching

Coach Education

FFSA clubs have been very proactive and supportive in assisting to further develop and educate their coaches, which will in turn help improve the football experience for their players.
There was a significant interest in the philosophy of ‘development over results’ and the building of relationships between coaches of different clubs was extremely positive.
The Junior and Youth Licenses are no longer, with the new Community Courses being brought into line with the Building Blocks, see diagram below.

Another highlight of the course is that the coaches are exposed to basic rules of the game as well as tips and hints on building a football culture in a completely practical setting.

Goalkeeping Licence

The Goalkeeper Licence course is conducted over 7 hours. They have a similar format to Certificate courses and seek to reinforce the methodology of teaching through seeing and experiencing more “model” goalkeeper technical sessions as well as more opportunities to conduct practices as part of a group and as an individual in preparation for the Licence Assessment. This course is aimed at coaches working with young goalkeepers in the 12-16 years age bracket.

After attending a Goalkeeper Licence course where you will be involved in planning, organising and conducting practices as well as seeing model sessions by the presenter, to gain a Licence you will be required to conduct a 15 minute practical session during which your competency to coach at the appropriate level will be assessed by a qualified assessor. This can be done at your local club or on an assessment day/night organised by your member federation, or as part of the course.

Goalkeeping Certificate

The Goalkeeper Certificate Course is conducted over 7 hours. This course provides opportunities for coaches to see model Goalkeeper sessions by the Presenter and to get involved in the planning and presentation of safe, appropriate and age related goalkeeper technical practices. The course is “non-assessed” meaning that participants will not be required to do an assessment to be awarded the Certificate but rather will have ongoing opportunities throughout the course via a series of “group coaching” practice sessions. They will complete a “self-assessment” checklist following their session and receive feedback from peers as well as the presenter. This course is aimed at those coaches wishing to learn how to teach the basic techniques for young goalkeepers up to 13years old.
