Brisbane Capitals D League Women Coach Appointed

The Brisbane Capitals Women’s program has added Olympic experience again with the appointment of former Australian Opal Bronze Medallist Fiona Hannan as D League Coach on a multiyear deal.

Hannan who played in the WNBL for 13 years, was an AIS Scholarship holder, played both in Europe, the US Collegiate system has turned her hand to coaching over the last few years.

Fiona who is a huge advocate for women in sport currently coaches the U14 Girls Brisbane Capitals Silver team and believes that the development of our junior female athletes needs to be improved so that they can get just as many opportunities as the men.

“I’m really excited about the Capitals focus on developing young female players; personally it has been a passion of mine for a long time”.

“It’s tough for young girls as they don’t get the same exposure to pro athletes (as what men do) and what it takes to get there” Hannan said about seeing the increased profile of the women’s program at BBI.

“It’s a huge opportunity to have three female coaches with the backgrounds they have and I can’t wait to work with her” Hannan on working with QBL Brisbane Capitals Head Coach & WNBL Star Kristen Veal.

Hannan believes that things at Brisbane continue to go from strength to strength and that the program will only benefit in the near future.

“For me personally I’m really excited to be surrounded by people who take things seriously and have strong professional backgrounds to see that every aspect of the program needs to be delivered with a level of professionalism where all the minor details are taken care of.”

Trials for the QBL & D League Women will be held on Thursday 7th & 14th February with times and venues to be advised. If you are interested in trialling but are unable to attend the trials please email qbl@brisbanebasketball.com.au.
