MMBL ROUND 9 RECAP

The Warriors opened round nine of the MMBL competition with a double header at 'The Colosseum'. The Premier Men came out firing with their most complete performance of the season winning a 78-42 against Keysborough while the Division 1 Men let a handy lead slip against Keysborough United going down 43-31.

The Premier Men traded baskets for the first term but kicked into gear in the second with an aggressive defensive approach breaking the game open as they went into the half time break with a 37-14 lead. The third quarter saw much of the same with an even scoring spread and all members cashing in to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Despite the last becoming a little scrappy the Warriors finished off with a sizeable 36 point win (78-42).

The Division 1 squad came with both teams scoring freely and while the scoring dried up in the second, scores were tied at the main break (19-19). In the third the Warriors jumped out of the gates on the back of some strong defensive stops but couldn’t continue with the momentum trailing by three points at the last change. In the final quarter the Warriors couldn’t reel in the visitors going down (43-31).

Coach's Comment:
The Premier team's result is a natural progression of where we are going and the collective buy in from the group. Defensively we were at another level last night and to have a guys like Jimmy Magrath and Tim Bydder display form I haven’t seen at practise over the first couple of months excites me at the road ahead.
The Div 1 crew started off playing freely but ultimately the fact guys have missed training sessions in the last fortnight and we weren’t hitting from the perimeter turned really cost us. Ultimately I felt we let the game slip through our inability to execute and that comes down to the hours put in behind the scenes.
