TEN TICKS WITH TOPPY

Hi James Topp here, just an overview on what’s been happening at Pakenham within the Div 2 Men's team so far this season. We have been training for nearly two months now and things are really starting to take shape. With quite a few fresh faces for next season there’s certainly a good buzz around the team. The guys are really starting to take to the new offensive system that Ryan has implemented and the results are there for all to see. As a new player to the club it has also been great to see the positive environment that surrounds the place. I believe this is going to go a long way towards creating the winning culture we are truly craving as a group.

The team has had an opportunity to run the new structures on Wednesday nights in the MMBL competition. Although still early in the season the team has been having some fantastic results and this is truly a testament to all the hard work being done at training. Great numbers surrounding the senior group have enabled two teams to be entered into this competition. I believe this has fuelled the highly competitive and intense scrimmages at Sunday morning trainings.

Looking forward to early next year the team has some great things planned ahead. A pre-season camp is booked for early February to help all the new players come together off the court, which is critical for overall success. We also look forward to a series of practice games to help fine tune all of hard work at training. This culminates in the Big V pre-season tournament over the Labour Day weekend in March. This will provide us with our first true test of where we stand in the overall picture of Division 2 Big V 2013.

The steps we have taken at this early point in season 2013 are encouraging but truly just the beginning. As we near the Christmas break it is important for all the guys to keep focus and ensure we come back in the New Year ready to train even harder.

“Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.” Benjamin Franklin

Wishing everybody a safe Christmas!
James Topp.
