Futsal

LogiWhat is Futsal?

Futsal, derived from the phrase Futebol de Salao (Portuguese) or Futbol Sala (Spanish), means soccer in a large room. The name Futsal was adopted officially in 1989 as part of the FIFA’s marketing strategy to promote the game throughout the world and develop the sport.

Futsal is the only form of ‘indoor football’, officially approved by FIFA and Football Federation Australia (FFA).

Futsal is a great skill developer, demanding quick reflexes, fast thinking and pinpoint passing. It places significant emphasis on technique, movement, skill, tactical awareness and fitness, and is an exciting game for both children and adults.

About Futsal

Futsal is played on a pitch with a flat, smooth and non-abrasive surface, preferably made of wood or artificial material. The pitch should be rectangular in shape, measuring between 25m – 42m (l) x 16m – 25m (w).

Games are played over two equal periods of twenty minutes.

Each team is permitted to field not more than five players and no fewer than three players, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Players can be substituted at any time throughout the game, whether the ball is in play or not.
