FAQ

How do I join Kew East Basketball Club and start playing basketball?

The best option is to register and join the KEBC Basketball Beginners Program that runs during the school term at Kew East Primary School. Details for this Program can be found on our website. This Program teaches basic basketball skills to children wishing to play domestic basketball. After completing the Program, the Club will assist with placing participants in a new or current KEBC team.

How do I start my own KEBC basketball team?

Firstly contact the KEBC Boys or Girls Team Coordinator. The main three things to consider are: a) a minimum of 7 or 8 players will be needed; b) it is advisable to have all of the players the same age and born in the same year; and c) one of the first things you will need is a team name so we can get you uploaded on to the trybooking system. This will enable your new team members to register and also to order their new uniform, well in advance of the start of the season. Your team will also need a Team Manager and a Coach.

Can I register for half a season, or commence playing midway through a season?

Yes, just contact the Boys or Girls Team Coordinator and they will organise a discount code for the registration process.

Should I wear a mouthguard?

Mouthguards are highly recommended, whilst not compulsory. It is highly recommended that all players wear mouthguards as there have been lots of major and minor injuries to teeth over the years. Ask your dentist!

When are the basketball seasons?

We have two seasons – Summer and Winter. Summer runs from the beginning of Term 4 of the government school term and finishes at the end of Term 1. The Winter season commences Term 2 and finishes at the end of Term 3. Finals are played at the end of each season. There are no games scheduled for long weekends, Easter break, Christmas break and government school holidays.

How do we find a new coach?

Coaches are very hard to find so look after them if you have a good one! The Club has a Coaching Coordinator who can assist and advise, however, it is up to the individual team to find and secure their own coach.

What are the age limits in the competition?

Summer competition runs in “odd” ages, ie Under 9’s, 11’s, 13’s and so on.

Winter competition runs in “even” ages, ie Under 10’s, Under 12’s, etc.

The basic rule is this – you must play “under” the age bracket of the competition. If you are 9, or if you are turning 9 before 31 December, you cannot play U9’s in that same year. If you are 12, or turning 12 before 31 December, then you cannot play U12’s.

For example, if any player in the team is 12 years old, or turning 12 before 31 December 2013, then the whole team must play Under 14’s in the Winter season. They cannot play U12’s because a team member is already 12.

If any player in the team is 13 years old, or turning 13 before 31 December, then the team must play Under 15’s in the Summer season. They cannot play U13’s because a team member is already 13.
