2023 Country Championships

Please find below some information regarding the 2023 Country Championships.

The Country Champs are played each year over the King's Birthday long weekend in June (10-12 June).  The 2023 competition is being held in Ballarat. There are games played over the 3 days and is the opportunity to play against the other regional Victorian leagues.  More information about the competition can be found on the website: https://countrychampsvic.com/#info

 

Age groups in the 2023 competition are:
Girls - U11, U12, U14, U16, U18
Boys - U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U18

The GSL have entered the teams into the U12 Boys, U14 Boys, U16 Boys and U18 Boys divisions.

Appointed coaches are:
U12 Boys - Dan Brown
U14 Boys - Brad Handley
U16 Boys - Daren Dempsey
U18 Boys - Beth Milkins

Training prior to the competition are scheduled for:
(U12, U14, U16) Saturday 13 May, 10am-11:30am at Newhaven Recreation Reserve, Phillip Island 
(U18) Friday 19 May, 6:30pm-8pm at Inverloch TBC 
(U12, U14, U16) Saturday 27 May, 12pm-1:30pm at Bellbird Park, Drouin 
(All teams) Saturday 3 June, 12pm-2pm at Korumburra Recreation Reserve.  This will be a training session, BBQ and presentation of playing strips 

 

The GSL will provide the playing strips for players to wear.  Players are required to provide black shorts and black socks.  There is also a team jacket for all players.

Estimated costs for players in 2023 include:

Team Jacket: $40 (same as 2022 jacket)
Black Shorts: $20 per pair if purchased from GSL
Black Socks: $10 per pair if purchased from GSL
Travel to/from Ballarat

Accommodation in Ballarat

Due to there also being a basketball tournament in Ballarat that weekend there is limited accommodation in Ballarat.

The GSL has secured some self catered accommodation (for up to 43 people) in Creswick at the Log Cabin Camp Homestead.  It is a bunk style accommodation with 7 rooms sleeping between 3-15 people in each room.  Once teams are finalised this accommodation will be offered to the players' families in a first come first serve basis.  This accommodation will be $210 per person for the 3 nights (9-12 June).  

If you have family or friends in Ballarat, or surrounding areas this will be a great option to explore.
