Singleton Promoted to Premier Division
Singleton have been rewarded for their excellent season in 2012 by being promoted to the Black Diamond AFL (BDAFL) Premier Division competition for the 2013 season.
Singleton were 2012 Division One premiers having gone through the season undefeated.
Singleton President, Paul Kelly was delighted with the news,
"The club is very pleased to be back in Premier Division" Kelly said
"A few of the players were considering their options for next year had Singleton not been promoted, however they now keen on focussing on the year ahead" he added.
Singleton were in the Black Diamond Cup in 2011 however were included in Division One in 2012 following the restructure of the competition.
Singleton's promotion means that the BDAFL Premier Division competition will consist of seven (7) teams in 2013.
In the other competitions, Division One will consist of eight (8) teams in 2013, whilst Division Two will have seven (7) teams.
2013 will be the first season the Black Diamond AFL will not have an Under 18's competition and as such Terrigal Avoca and Warners Bay have joined Newcastle City in having a team in all grades whilst Maitland and Nelson Bay have each also nominated an additional senior team in 2013.
Football Operations Manager, Garry Burkinshaw was pleased with the competition structures,
"Twenty Two senior teams is a pleasing result especially with Maitland and Nelson Bay having an additional senior team" Burkinshaw said.
"It is equally pleasing that Singleton have been promoted to the Premier Division. They were disappointed to have been excluded from the Premier Division competition last year, however the club knuckled down and performed well both on and off the field, and have earned their promotion" he added.
The fixture will be drafted over the next few weeks however it has been confirmed that the competition will start on Saturday, 6 April 2013 with the Grand Final on Saturday, 7 September 2013.
