Goal-scorers Asinate Blake and Litiana Sogotubu were lost for words describing their goals against Australia Country.
After a sea-sawing first half Blake pounced on the ball seconds from the halftime buzzer and slotted it in for Fiji’s goal.
The Lelean Memorial School sixth former said “I wasn’t expecting it to come towards me. This team is awesome.”
Sogotubu’s scoring prowess is in her blood. The daughter of former national soccer captain Radike Nawalu has been scoring goals throughout the weeklong tournament.
Her goal two minutes into the second spell gave Fiji a two nil buffer.
“To be honest I wasn’t expecting to score,” said the 24 year old Moala lass.
“My team is awesome. They are my family and we have been playing together for over a year now,” said Sogotubu.
Fiji defending their lead vigorously as Australia poured everything into the game and managed a consolation goal in the 59th minute to Caitlin Rosser.
Coach Corrie says it will be double celebration now after taking out the World League Round One yesterday.
“We’ll enjoy with our families and our nation. We’ll take a Christmas and New Year break before we resume.”
