Initially, Tim coached his son's U12 team. He quickly followed this up by becoming a player in Senior B competition, reverting to earlier days only to find that his knees were shot. He had, however, been bitten by the basketball bug, which he was infected by in 1973.

On having a conversation with Howard Nixon about refereeing, he got involved and requalified earlier gained referee qualifications from QLD and ACT. This led to participating in referee and other committees, getting scoretable qualifications, and doing tribunals.

Tim was also Tribunal Chairman at NSBA for several years.
