Anto Panoyan

Anto has been actively involved with the NSBA as a Player and a Referee since 1987. He was a member of the NSBA Referee Committee for many years and has also coached junior teams in our Junior domestic competitions.

He referees Junior Rep Games for Norths, and has refereed State League since 1988. He is also highly recommended for refereeing Private Schools and was one of the Referees in the Australian Masters Games in Alice Springs and at the World Masters Games in Sydney in 2009.

He was named Volunteer of the year Award – Sportsman Award (Presented by Willoughby Council), and has received a Merit Award for the development of Referees (from Basketball NSW). In 2008 he was presented with the National Junior Basketball Award – Junior Basketball Volunteer of the Year by Basketball Australia.

Anto was a NSBA Board member for several years and was appointed a Life Member of the NSBA in 2009.

He says

“..I am passionate about basketball. I strongly believe that through basketball the youth of today, both male and female can enjoy both the physical and mental interaction between other team players. I feel it my humble duty to encourage fair play and discipline as well as enjoyment of this wonderful sport we know as basketball.

It is an honour to be a life member for the NSBA. The basketball court is an extension to my home and the NSBA is the extension to my family.”
