Nick was first approached by Harry Kushkarian to look at the possibility of enclosing Rooftop Basketball Centre.

He quickly became an active proponent on North Sydney Council of having the NSISC built and NSBA have the management rights or lease of the building.

As a North Sydney councillor, Nick promoted the development of NSISC, believing it provided vital benefits to North Sydney, especially its youth, and that NSBA was best able to deliver those benefits to the community.
