Ralph played a pivotal role in the Education, Training and Development of NSBA Officials as Referee Coach and Co-ordinator. He regularly conducted referee courses for junior and senior level with the aim of improving the standard of officiating to meet the needs of the association. After the courses were completed the candidates were assessed on court for player and game management with badges awarded to the successful candidates. Further training was given to allow the referee to reach their full potential.

Ralph said “The most memorable and enjoyable part was to see NSBA referees participating at other associations and receive comments about the high standard officiating.”

“Another memorable and enjoyable event was to video tape referees during the final series and have this re-played after the game to individual officials. This was accepted by all as a good way of improving the standard of officiating.”

Ralph’s role was to set a high standard of conduct both on and off the court which was done through information and rule update meetings. It was very much "lead by example".

He was made a life member of NSBA in 2001
