The Skill360 FNQ FC Heat is welcoming experienced mentor Joe Fenech to the club’s Football Department.

The former CQFC Energy Head Coach and former Football Queensland Development Officer will act as interim coach for the remainder of the National Premier League season from next week.

Martin Docherty will remain as Head Coach but will act in more of an advisory role as he tends to an important family medical situation.

FNQ FC Technical Director, Chris Collins says Fenech’s appointment is a huge boost to the club.

“I spoke to the (FNQ FC) directors and I spoke to Martin and said: ‘look, we really need someone to come in and give us a hand’ and Joe fits the bill,” Collins told local media this morning.

“Joe’s vastly experienced; he gets the best out of players.”

“We need to make the team a little bit more competitive, we lack a bit of experience but Joe will bring that off the field too.”

Collins will lead the NPL side for the final time in this Saturday’s away match with Moreton Bay.

Fenech is tying-up loose ends in Rockhampton and is likely to arrive in Cairns next week.

Last week, Fenech decided to stand down from his multiple positions with NPL club, CQFC Energy after two and a half years in the Central Queensland region.

On field, the Heat is looking for a turn around in performance after last round’s loss.

The Heat sit in 10th spot on the league ladder with 1 win, 1 draw and 4 losses while Moreton Bay are placed 7th, having won 3 matches and lost twice.
